The forthcoming album from the Powder Monkeys - Everyone Else Grew Up

The new album is finally here ...

"Everyone Else Grew Up"

So, here it is at last. 'Everyone Else Grew Up', the new album from those Powder Monkeys. 13 tales of love, loss, crap jobs and parachute technology!

The follow up to 2003's catchily titled 'Give Me the Gun and Say It Again' features a number of songs that have been live favourites for the past year, such as 'Blue Skies' and 'Deadline Day', along with a batch of newer tunes like 'One Life' and 'Passing Through'.

This time around we've gone for a bigger version of our sound with plenty of guitars (no surprises there!), and incorporated a few guest spots from Tiny Ives (Hammond organ) and David Wilson (saxophone), who we borrowed for the occasion from Leigh's other band, Three Men & A Bass.

Reviews of songs from the album previewed on Garageband have garnered praise in many forms, and whilst songs from the last album brought comparison with a variety of existing artists (and some no longer existing ones!), this time around the vast majority of reviewers couldn't think of anyone we particularly sounded like. We took that as a good sign!

So, get on over to the shop page and buy your copy now, or alternatively come and see us play live and pick up your copy there - but can you really wait 'til the end of June, just think of the weeks of listening pleasure you would be denying yourself if you waited!!

Songs from our debut album have been described in lots of ways - most of them complimentary! There's been that 'Beatles in 2003' tag, which is gonna be a tough one to live up to - but you'd rather be likened to them than someone like - no I couldn't be so disrespectful to Joe Dolce, after all he might have connections with that friendly sicilian family enterprise. Folks have also mentioned The White Stripes, which is at least a bit more up to date, alongside REM - those 12-string jangles get them every time - The Pixies, Elvis Costello - we decided this was down to Paul's vocal style, very classy stuff - and rather oddly, The Doobie Brothers, not that I've got anything against them, but it's always fun to be told you sound like someone you've heard of, but can't recall actually hearing.

As for ourselves, well we just hang around a refurbished garage - when we started the refurbishment hadn't begun - and tinker around with our songs until they sound how we reckon they should sound without really thinking too much about who we sound like... well OK we do have our own ideas, but it is rare for two members of the band to be thinking about the same band for the same part of a piece!

Our USP would probably be having more complex rhythm section arrangements than most bands who have a similar guitar sound. Too much RUSH in some people's youths methinks. I, of course, moderated my intake very sensibly! Believe that if you will. - Styx (2003)
